From a young age, Milka Wambui Ndung’u found joy in reading, writing, and expressing ideas—an interest that laid the foundation for her future career in digital media and counseling. Milka, born into a community that esteems resilience and hard work was fascinated with storytelling and human connection – a future she couldn’t yet envision.
In 2020, as the world grappled with the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, Milka who was working with a church-based media house saw an opportunity amidst the chaos. She launched a Youtube channel dubbed Dynasty Empire, a digital platform born out of curiosity and a desire to explore faith related content creation. Milka also advanced her idea to include a Facebook page and a WhatsApp group which currently boast of over 30+ communities under the name Milka Ndungu (Dynasty Empire). What began as a personal project soon became a beacon of innovation.
“My journey into the digital space started quietly in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the world slowed down and so much time at home, I launched Dynasty Empire—initially just a fun outlet to explore digital content. I had no big plan; just curiosity and creativity.” Milka explained.
Unanticipated visit to a local library introduced Milka to the Ajira Digital Program, an initiative by the Kenyan government under the Ministry of Information Communication and Digital Economy, implemented by eMobilis Technological Institute, and Kenya Private Sector Alliance with the strategic support from Mastercard Foundation aimed at equipping youth with digital work readiness skills. Enrolling in a content writing course she quickly caught the attention of her trainer, who recognized her potential and recommended her for advanced training. Here, Milka delved into digital marketing and graphic design, skills that would redefine her career trajectory.
"The first business card I designed during that training wasn't just a card; it was a symbol of my transformation," Milka recalls.
When Milka was starting out, she took a bold leap — securing a bank loan to buy her first laptop and even opting for a “lipa mdogo mdogo” plan to afford a quality smartphone. Her goal was clear: equip herself with the right tools to create top-notch content and build a brand from the ground up. Armed with new skills, a laptop and a renewed vision, Milka transformed Dynasty Empire from a creative outlet into a full-fledged digital marketing agency. Her commitment to impact over making income led her to serve a diverse clientele, from corporate entities to street vendors, ensuring that quality marketing solutions were accessible to all.
Her journey took another turn when, during a counseling event, she handed out her business card and was offered the role to consult as the CEO for a group of schools, a contract that lasted close to 2 years. This experience enriched her leadership skills but also reinforced her passion for digital innovation.
Returning to Dynasty Empire with renewed vigor, Milka expanded her services to include branding, social media management, content creation, and strategic consulting. Her personal platforms—Facebook, YouTube, and live broadcasts—became avenues to promote businesses and inspire growth. She also hosts a TV show and runs online sessions like the Patriotic Prayer Closet, blending her faith, media skills, and national pride.
Through her business, Milka has had the privilege of working with short-term and long-term contracts clients in various industries. So far, she has supported 20+ MSMEs including education institutions, hotels, pharmacies, street vendors, media houses among others to cement their brand visibility and accelerate their market share through digital marketing.
From humble clientele of daily payments of just Ksh 50 to premium retainers of Ksh 20,000 a month, Dynasty Empire caters to a wide spectrum of clients. Notably, Dynasty Empire pulls in an average of Ksh 50,000 monthly — with some months soaring even higher. Thanks to low overheads and internet being the biggest expense, Milka enjoys the freedom to channel most of the profits into other ventures. Additionally, living in the countryside keeps her personal costs low too, giving her business a strong edge in reinvestment and growth.
While many of her loyal customers hail from her home county of Nyeri, her influence stretches far beyond — reaching across Kenya’s counties, throughout East Africa, and even to clients based in the USA.
“I am not just a marketer; I am a storyteller, a counselor, and a woman of faith. I believe in creating accessible, affordable, and impactful marketing solutions," Milka asserts. “I carry with me the lessons of every season—from the library, to the CEO’s office; to the street vendors I help go digital. Everything I do is powered to dominion by grace. My dream is to become a household name in digital strategy—empowering entrepreneurs, creating employment, and mentoring the next generation of media-driven professionals."
Milka's story is a demonstration of the transformative power of passion, resilience, and continuous learning. Notably, from the serene landscapes of Nyeri to the dynamic digital arenas of Nairobi, she embodies the spirit of innovation and the promise of a brighter, inclusive future.
“Looking ahead, I envision transforming Dynasty Empire into a powerhouse marketing and digital solutions hub — championing MSMEs across Kenya and making waves far beyond its borders."
