On 14th November 2022, Mr Eduado Freitas - Regional Manager, Africa-Green Climate Fund, met with KEPSA and the Kenya National Designated Authority (NDA) for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) at the Conference of the Parties of the 27th United Nations Climate Change (COP27) in Egypt. The objective of the meeting was to assess the accreditation and progress of Kenya Green Climate Fund projects as well as to discuss ways to improve our future cooperation.
Through the GCF's NAP Readiness Support Project, KEPSA created the Climate Business Information Network (CBIN-K) and the Private Sector Strategy on Climate Change Solutions in Kenya (2022– 2030).
Additionally, CBIN-K members developed ideas for initiatives in the built environment, waste management, water, and agricultural value chains that may be funded through the GCF.
COP27 envisions accelerating and scaling up adaptation funding to developing countries. The meeting explored opportunities for Kenyan stakeholders both accredited entities and project proponents to engage with GCF through virtual engagements in order to develop a clear road map.
KEPSA was represented by Ms Faith Ngige - KEPSA/ Climate Business Information Network – Kenya Coordinator. The NDA was represented by the Kenya National Treasury and Planning Head of the Green Climate Finance Unit- Mr Malik Oman and Mr Hillary Korir.
