The 27th Session of the UN Conference of Parties' (COP27) came to an end on 20th November 2022, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The historic 'Loss and Damage' finance arrangements related to the detrimental effects of climate change were adopted during the concluding plenary, which was presided over by COP27 President H.E. Sameh Shoukry.
The resolution recognizes the need to step up efforts to prevent, lessen, and deal with loss and damage brought on by adverse effects of climate change, and it notes that the current funding mechanisms are insufficient to fill gaps in providing action and support in response to loss and damage brought on by adverse effects of climate change. The parties decided to set up a new financial system for helping developing countries deal with loss and damage. During COP28, the transitional committee that will implement the new funds will be submitted for adoption. Click on the link to access the Loss and Damage Resolution document: http://bit.ly/3OmxzKk
