KEPSA met with the Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi on 24th January 2023 as part of the ongoing consultative meetings for beginning working engagements with the new administration.
The meeting was led by KEPSA CEO Ms Carole Kariuki and accompanied by the Public-Private Dialogue Committee which is chaired by Eng. James Mwangi who is a KEPSA Director. The other members of the committee present were Ms Brenda Mbathi (KEPSA Trustee), Mr Darren Gillen (KEPSA Director) and the KEPSA Head of Public-Private Dialogue Ms Agatha Juma. Hon. Mudavadi was accompanied by Chief of Staff Mr Joseph Busiega and Director of Communications Mr Salim Swaleh.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Mudavadi welcomed the team to his office and confirmed the important role of KEPSA as the umbrella body for the private sector. He encouraged KEPSA to strengthen its voice in engaging on behalf of the private sector and as a development & accountability partner for the Government. He acknowledged that the Government is faced with a challenging fiscal space which needs resolving while providing a facilitative business environment for the private sector to thrive.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary informed the meeting that he is keen on having a more open and receptive Government. He encouraged KEPSA to play a more active role in engaging in legislative, governance and fiscal development, monitoring and evaluation.
The meeting agreed on quarterly inter-ministerial roundtable meetings to discuss and resolve 4 cross-cutting issues per quarter. In addition, the KEPSA and the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary will engage and collaborate on:
Hon. Mudavadi reiterated that a thriving private sector is important for the Government as it delivers jobs and taxes and is committed to having close and regular engagement with KEPSA to achieve this.
