KEPSA today joined the Ministry of Education at the Kabete National Polytechnic to celebrate the progress made in the TVET sector since its introduction in Kenya 100 years ago. The objective of the meeting was to demystify the misconceptions around TVET and to present TVET as a strong pathway that can yield transformation in developing skills on demand, encouraging entrepreneurship, and alleviating the problem of unemployment in Kenya.
Dr. Esther Muoria, the Principal Secretary, of the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) called upon the media to partner in rebranding TVET as the center of skills development. She presented TVET as a platform where the private sector can join hands with government and development partners to create transformative change pledging full support on behalf of the Kenyan government while highlighting the requisite policies put in place in support of TVET, such as the Curriculum Based Education and Training (CBET). TVET institutions were urged to adopt a training model that trains for the industry, with the industry and for the industry and development of curriculum on AI to accommodate the emerging global trends and work streams.
KEPSA led the industry in highlighting the role of the private sector in ensuring the success of TVET in transforming the Kenyan Economy. The event was very crucial in highlighting the role of every player in the ecosystem and the success stories witnessed in the TVET pathways for the past 100 years. KEPSA was represented by the Vice Chair KEPSA Education Sector board in charge of the TVET Sub-Sector, Priscilla Kerebi. Other keynote speakers at the event include Dr. Kevit Desai and Mr. Patrick Nyangweso, the CEO of KNCCI.
