On 22nd March 2022, KEPSA Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Sector Board held a Ministerial Stakeholders Forum (MSF) at Tamarind Tree Hotel. The key focus of the MSF was to review the progress made in addressing the private sector concerns regarding the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS).
NLIMS was launched on 27th April 2021 and the private sector has been working with the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning in improving the efficiency of the system. The Ministry has since digitized the Nairobi City County land records and is moving on to the Nairobi metropolitan counties.
The main challenge the Ministry is facing as indicated during the engagement is the low registration on the system by professionals, the private sector and the public in general. The Ministry noted that it’s difficult to identify the hurdles customers are facing if the users don’t register or/and transact using the system, which is one of the ways to enable them to improve the system and cater for customers’ needs.
As a way forward, the forum agreed on the following;
The Ministry team was led by the Cabinet Secretary Hon. Farida Karoney while the KEPSA delegation was led by Mr. Gikonyo Gitonga – Chair of KEPSA Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Sector Board. Also present at the forum was the Ministry’s Principal Secretary Dr. Nicholas Muraguri and Ms. Flora Mutahi – KEPSA Chair.
