ACCELERATING IMPLEMENTATION OF SDGs IN THE DECADE OF ACTION

KEPSA, as a member of the National Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Interagency Technical Committee, took part in the organization and coordination of private sector participation in the 4th session of the National SDGs Multi-Stakeholders Engagement Forum held between 15th – 17th December 2021 at Leisure Lodge Resort in Diani. The forum, themed, “Sustainable and Resilient Recovery: Accelerating implementation of SDGs in the Decade of Action,” brought together key stakeholders including private sector members to take stock of the progress of implementation of SDGs in the past one year, share experiences, innovations, best practices and set the 2022 Agenda for fast-tracking implementation of SDGs for economic recovery.
Speaking during the opening session, Mr. Patrick Maingi – KEPSA Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) Specialist, said that the private sector is a critical player in the realization of resilient sustainable development. He reaffirmed the private sector commitment to the Decade of Action to accelerate implementation and delivery of SDGs and green recovery through the following key actions:
- Accelerating Transition to a Green Growth and Circular Economy Pathway:
- Leverage Digital Disruption and Innovation for value chain resilience and service delivery.
- Advance Policy Coherence for Competitiveness and Ease of Doing Business through the established Public-Private Dialogue Platforms /
- Support Accountability and Reporting of the 2030 Agenda for both Corporates and multinationals and SMEs:
- Increase awareness and capacity building of private sector in integrating SDGs and Green Growth in their business models.
- Enhance Inclusiveness and Private Sector Coordination around the 5Ps of People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace and Partnerships.
- Strengthen Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships through The Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals and the National SDG interagency Technical Working Committee.
- Organize the Annual Business SDGs Forum to share progress and experiences of private sector in Kenya on its contribution to the Vision 2030.
KEPSA and the private sector at large has made a significant contribution in enhancing resilience, sustainability and business continuity in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This is key to ensure gains are not significantly reversed.
The forum was officially opened by the Chief Administrative Secretary – National Treasury and Planning Hon. Eric Wafukho. Other speakers at the opening session included the Vice-Chair of Kenya Parliamentary Caucus on SDGs and Business Hon. Martha Wangari, the Council of Governors’ SDGs Coordinator Mr. Ken Oluoch, UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Walid Badawi, SDG Kenya Forum Chairman Mr. George Owala and UNICEF representative Mr. Robert Simiyu.
The Conference participants were drawn from the national and county governments, Council of Governors, the private sector, civil society organizations, academia, UN Agencies and Development Partners, Parliament and media among others.
