KEPSA members were part of the Kenyan delegation that participated in the Kenya Market Survey Dissemination Seminar on 23rd and 24th May 2022 in Harare Zimbabwe. The event was hosted by ZimTrade, the National Trade Development and Promotion Organization of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
The Seminar was held in follow-up to the State visit in March 2022 to Kenya by the Zimbabwean Head of State H.E Emmerson Mnangagwa. ZimTrade conducted a survey on trade and opportunities in March 2022 and this forum was informed by the outcomes of the survey, which identified niche areas to conduct or enhance trade between the two countries. Currently, the trade balance is in favour of Zimbabwe.
The seminar featured sector-specific break-away sessions where both explored ways to upscale trade between the two countries in B2B Meetings. Kenyan organizations in attendance included KEPSA and its member associations and corporates including RETRAK, FPEAK, EAGC, Farm shop, Elgon Kenya, Melvin Marsh International among others.
During the forum, ZimTrade and FPEAK signed an MoU to further collaborate and enhance the trade of fresh produce between the two countries. The sectors of focus revolved around Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Agricultural Inputs and implements, Processed foods sector, Oil and stock feeds, Horticulture, Timber, and Sugar.
The Kenyan delegates visit several Zimbabwean organizations to have a first-hand view of the companies while at the same time discussing areas of collaboration. The delegation also paid a courtesy call to Ambassador Stella Munyi at the Kenyan Embassy in Harare.
ZimTrade will adopt the following strategies amongst others regarding upscaling trade and investments between the two countries:
Logistics, by road, remains a challenge. However, the sea through the port of Durban in South Africa is fully operational and air (Direct flights facilitated through Kenya Airways Cargo) are viable.
ZimTrade was established in 1991 as a unique joint-venture partnership between the Private Sector and the Government of Zimbabwe. It assists Zimbabwean exporters to develop, promote and facilitate the export of their goods and services to the world.
