On 3rd March 2022, the East African Business Council (EABC) Kenya Chapter members held a meeting to nominate leaders to join the EABC Executive Board. The meeting was attended by the current Kenya members of the EABC led by the EABC Chair, Mr. Nicholas Nesbitt and Kenya National Focal Point CEO, Ms. Carole Kariuki who chaired the meeting.
The meeting was held in accordance with the Memorandum stabling the EABC, in particular Article 47 that requires the Executive Committee to be composed of 4 paid-up members from each Partner State where EABC has members. Each Partner States shall nominate 4 members of whom 2 shall be corporate and 2 Ordinary and Associate members.
The members nominated KEPSA by virtue of being the national focal point, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) as the second Association member, Coca-Cola Central, East & West Africa and the Brookside Dairy Limited. The institutions will be represented by Mr. Jas Bedi (KEPSA Vice-Chair), Mr. Mucai Kunyiha (KAM Chair), Ms. Emily Waita (Coca Cola Africa Public Affairs Director) and Mr. Muhoho Kenyatta (Brookside Executive Chairman) respectively.
The members also agreed to the formation of the EABC Committee-Kenya Chapter as a platform for all EABC Kenya members to engage with the Board members as a precursor to the EABC Board meetings. Members will be able to engage on issues and harmonize the policy priorities in the Committee. The members also agreed to the formation of sub-committees based to cover the diversity of interests, with the chairs of these Sub-Committees having the responsibility to make presentations to the EABC board on a need basis.
The nominees were urged to consider revitalizing the participation of the private sector in the regional PPD structures including the EABC CEO’s Roundtable, EABC-EAC Technical Working Group, Private sector Roundtable during EAC heads of states summit, EAC-CEOs Secretary-General Forum, East Africa Legislature Assembly Roundtable, Regional Ministerial Forum, EABC National Chapter Engagements with Chapter members among others.
Currently, EABC has a total of 29 paid-up members from Kenya who will be represented on the Board by four nominees and the outgoing Chair who will serve in the Board for 1 year.
