In keeping with the theme of Intra Africa trade and making African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) work, KEPSA CEO, Ms. Carole Kariuki, was an eminent member of the official delegation that represented Kenya in Casablanca, Morocco on 14th -15th March 2019 for the 6th International Africa Development Forum which was themed; “When East meets West”.
The Forum, which is regarded as the reference platform, on African soil, of the economic and political community engaged in the intercontinental dynamics, was organised by Attijariwafa Bank Group. The platform also provides linkage between economic agents, investors, and policy makers.
Ms. Kariuki used the opportunity to introduce KEPSA and added that the government could not develop by itself but with the collaboration of the private sector. She remarked that Africa was trying to find solutions in its own way by giving an example of how Africans solve problems in a different innovative way. The KEPSA CEO explained how FinTech wasn’t going to happen the regular way, so Kenyans invented the technology that allows anyone to use banking services through cell phones.
One of the major highlights of this forum was to award corporation trophies to companies that are African and excelling in intra Africa trade. The idea behind the awards was to not only celebrate but also to encourage more growth, market the companies to other African countries and to demonstrate that ACFTA could be done.
It was worth noting that intra Africa trade is just 10% yet this is where growth is happening.
