The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Kenya Environment and Energy Commission on 18th April, 2023 visited the ROAM factory in Nairobi.
Roam is a technology-enabled electric mobility company focused on electrifying Kenya’s public transport sector. Just last month, they launched a 10,000-square-meter facility called Roam Park which is EA’s largest electric motorcycle plant. The new location will allow them to meet market demand for electric motorcycles as the premises has an annual production capacity of 50000 motorcycles that will be reached in a couple of years.
During the visit, the main topic of discussion was the e-mobility sector in Kenya. Roam highlighted both the opportunities and challenges in the sector. One of the key opportunities was the potential for job creation, particularly for young people. Additionally, the e-mobility sector could contribute to increased access to clean energy and a reduction in the demand for fossil fuels. However, there were also some challenges that needed to be addressed, such as the policy framework and regulations governing the sector. Overall, the visit provided valuable insights into the e-mobility sector in Kenya and highlighted the potential for growth and development in the sector, while also identifying areas that need improvement.
ICC Kenya will continue working closely with the sector leaders and players under its environment and energy commission.
