KEPSA continues to drive key partnerships, evidenced by today's strategic meeting with Gatsby Africa. This crucial discussion focused on preparing for an upcoming multi-stakeholder workshop set for August 2025. Representing Gatsby Africa were Dorris Kirui, Manager – Water, and Kamau Waithaka, Program Manager, with Programme Director – Water, Abdi Wario, acknowledged in absentia. Dr. Jackson Koimbori, Head of KEPSA Consult and Senior Circular Economy and Climate Change Coordinator, represented KEPSA.
The engagement focused on finalising key design elements of the August workshop, which will bring together diverse stakeholders to deliberate on Kenya’s water resources management and river basin governance. The meeting emphasised the importance of inclusive, data-driven dialogue and cross-sectoral collaboration in enhancing sustainable water governance across Kenya’s basins.
Particular attention was given to the findings and recommendations of the July 2024 report on “Water Resources Management and River Basin Governance in Kenya,” jointly developed by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Gatsby Africa. The upcoming workshop will serve as a platform to disseminate this report to policymakers, private sector actors, and other relevant stakeholders across sectors such as agriculture, environment, energy, WASH, and manufacturing.
During the meeting, KEPSA committed to mobilising its networks to ensure strong representation of private sector voices at the August workshop. Discussions also touched on how to leverage KEPSA’s policy advocacy role to shape regulatory reforms and drive sustainable investment in water-related infrastructure and ecosystem restoration.
Both KEPSA and Gatsby Africa reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing resilient and inclusive water governance in Kenya. The workshop will be a crucial milestone in aligning efforts across public and private sectors, as well as civil society, to implement integrated and community-led water resource solutions.
