My name is Ms. Annastacia Nyagitha, 30, the proprietor of Anna’s Kitchen; a Kenyan-registered company based in Naivasha, Nakuru County; a go-to source for delicious outdoor catering and cooking classes. The business started in the year 2019 in August as a family-owned and operated business that is passionate about food and creating memorable experiences for our customers.
The business initially started off with cooking at Anna’s home and then doing deliveries as the orders came in but over time, it has expanded to include catering services for events, occasions, or when called upon, in-house cooking, and lastly, it has ventured into pastry baking. In addition to catering services, we also offer cooking classes that are perfect for aspiring chefs and foodies alike and have incorporated experienced instructors who teach the techniques and skills you need to create your own culinary masterpieces.
In 2022, Annastacia participated in two cohorts: Adopting Technology and Investor Readiness cohorts under the SME Accelerator Program organized by KEPSA through the support of the Embassy of Ireland.
As a result of her participation, Annastacia identified that her business did not have a plan and hence lacked a strategic plan on how to do things. With this, she came up with a business plan that guides her business and the Terms of Service (T.o.S) which are necessary for a service-providing company. As she franchised into offering cooking classes and offering catering services for events, the number of staff increased from one assistant to 6 employees. Her sales have increased by 95% due to the expansion of their activities and venturing into creating an online presence.
Her key takeaways were the use of technology in marketing, branding, and running a business, as well as building a good working relationship with her employees, which resulted in creating a website for Anna’s Kitchen which is currently being finalized. Further, the good relations have led to a change of mindset in how she relates with her employees.
