MKENYA DAIMA MEETING WITH NATIONAL COHESION AND INTEGRATION COMMISSION (NCIC)

On 7th February 2023, the Mkenya Daima Initiative led by the KEPSA Foundation, Executive Director, Ms. Gloria Ndekei met with the CEO of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Dr. Skitter Ocharo on the continuous engagements on matters peace building in the country.
Dr. Ocharo gave an overview of NCIC and also appreciated the previous interactions and engagements with Mkenya Daima before, during and after the 2022 General elections.
Further the NCIC shared the blueprint of upcoming activities for the year 2023 – 2025 which is anchored on four pillars namely:
- Documentation of successes
- Entrenching the NCIC work at the grassroots by working with counties to build peace.
- Healing and reconciliation
- Institutional strengthening through
- Action plan against hate speech
- Early warning and response
- Formation of an association of Africa’s peace institutions to promote knowledge exchange.
On her part, Ms. Gloria Ndekei gave an overview and highlighted areas to explore for partnership between Mkenya Daima and NCIC as:
- Strengthening the social fabric by working beyond tribes, holding regional exchange visits to appreciate and embrace cultural diversity.
- Youth – Engage youth in peacebuilding through tournaments and activities to address issues of youth inhomogeneity.
- Exploring and showcasing our cultural diversity.
- Joint county engagements
She also suggested that the peace center could embrace technology and include virtual features like call centers.
The Meeting agreed to align on programs and events for collaboration, continue joint social media messaging ensuring neutrality and facilitation of county barazas.
