KEPSA, led by the CEO Ms Carole Kariuki, on the 1st of August 2022 held a meeting with EnergyNet Limited, best known for the Africa Energy Forum (AEF). The EnergyNet Limited team was led by Mr Simon Gosling, Managing Director and Ms Gemma Gosling, the Public Sector Engagement Manager. The meeting aimed at introducing AEF to KEPSA. Also present during the meeting were Ms Agatha Juma, Head of Public-Private Dialogue and Mr Peter Thairu, Energy Sector Lead.
In his remarks, Mr Gosling mentioned that the 25th AEF would take place in Nairobi from 20th – 23rd June 2023. AEF is Africa's premier meeting place for the promotion of investment and business opportunities in the power, renewable energy and gas sectors. The upcoming forum will be the first time AEF happening in mainland Africa and organizers have committed to bringing the forum to the continent every three years.
During the 24th AEF held in Brussel in June 2022, the Youth Energy Summit was launched. The aim is to create a platform and network for early career professionals, entrepreneurs, students and educators to boost the skills, connections and business readiness of a new generation of African energy Leaders. The summit will be happening alongside the AEF. The event will also allow SMEs to showcase innovations in the energy Sector.
Ms Kariuki noted that KEPSA is willing to partner with EnergyNet in hosting the AEF next year. She informed the meeting that KEPSA has a database of over 10000 SMEs, which can identify SMEs that can benefit from the forum. KEPSA would also ensure members from different sectors participate and get value from the forum.
Each year the forum attracts around 2000 participants from 80 countries, including 20 ministers of energy and 30 heads of utilities from across Africa with their delegations of transmission and distribution companies.
In addition to government delegations, private sector participants include senior representatives from development financial institutions (DFIs), multilateral agencies, power developers, financiers and service providers. Africa trade and business focussed sessions will bring together governments and the private sector from across Africa, Europe, China, the Middle East and the USA.
