On 20th May 2022, KEPSA members were trained on a web-based solution for tracking Kenyan Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates, the TVET Versatile Database System (https://tvettracer.education.go.ke/). This is one of the several scheduled series of activities by KEPSA in its efforts to support the State Department of TVET in linking its Members with such initiatives.
In his opening remarks during the two-hour training session, Dr. Ehud Gachugu, Project Director- Ajira Digital Program and Youth Employment at KEPSA explained to the over 40 participants that this was a new solution for the private sector and would greatly benefit Members in recruiting knowledgeable and qualified TVET graduates to their establishments.
Present were teams from KEPSA led by Ms. Priscilla Kerebi, Vice-Chair KEPSA-Education Sector Board and Chair TVET Sub-Sector, Ministry of Education led by Mr. John Tuwei, AFDB TVET Project Leader at the Ministry as well as the Enterprise unit of Technical University of Mombasa (TUMEL) team who are the System’s Consultants.
Ms. Priscilla explained that apart from linking TVET graduates from both the private and public institutions to potential employers and jobs, hence ensuring socio-economic protection for the young people, KEPSA Members will have an opportunity to advertise job vacancies on the portal and monitor the applications. Members can also give feedback on the recruited talents and the TVET Institutions can track the employability of their graduates as they continuously improve their training from the feedback received.
KEPSA will continue to support such initiatives by the TVET sector and engage Members to derive benefits from these solutions and at the same time create jobs for the youth; translating to the growth of the nation’s economy.
