The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) has strengthened its collaboration with county governments to promote climate-smart industrialisation and attract green investments. This commitment was underscored during a three-day workshop in Kisumu, held from 6th May 2025, under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLOCA) Program. The event brought together county leaders, regulatory bodies, and private sector stakeholders to explore pathways for integrating climate adaptation into local economic planning.
Representing KEPSA, Dr. Jackson Koimbori, Head of KEPSA Consult and Senior Circular Economy and Climate Change Coordinator, emphasised the critical role counties play in the green transition. He highlighted how KEPSA is actively partnering with counties to provide policy support, technical expertise, and strategic collaboration to accelerate climate-resilient industrialisation. Dr. Koimbori also underscored the private sector’s capacity to deliver innovation and financing essential to unlocking sustainable investment opportunities across Kenya’s devolved units.
Dr. Koimbori’s presentation also stressed the need for enhanced member engagement within KEPSA Consult, particularly in undertaking feasibility studies and data collection programs with counties. He underscored the importance of evidence-based planning and encouraged structured involvement of private sector actors in county-level climate initiatives. This, he explained, would strengthen the implementation of locally driven climate-smart programs and improve alignment with both domestic and international standards.
Furthermore, he called for stronger collaboration between countries and the private sector in organising business forums dedicated to climate-smart trade and investment. Such platforms, he said, would facilitate the co-creation of green industrial strategies, unlock climate financing, and foster knowledge-sharing between public and private stakeholders. The presentation emphasised that these forums could act as catalysts for scalable, climate-resilient economic models tailored to county priorities.
The workshop concluded with a broad consensus on the need for joint action, regulatory harmonisation, and private-sector engagement in climate resilience. KEPSA’s input was recognised as central to the realisation of climate-smart development at both local and national levels, with counties urged to deepen cooperation with platforms like KEPSA Consult in achieving long-term sustainability goals.
