13th July 2022, KEPSA, represented by the CEO Ms. Carole Kariuki, participated in the Insights Summit 2022 that was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Upper Hill. Organized by Xetova, the summit aimed at provoking action, triggering collaboration and stirring a new mindset for leaders looking to leverage and adapt information technology and data within their specific contexts for transformation.
Over the past nine months, Xetova undertook a large-scale study on enterprise digitization in Kenya. The main objective of the research, which engaged over 50 top executives across various sectors, was to examine concrete digital initiatives and journeys of public and private sector players alike. A major insight from this study is that – if done right – digital interventions can be a powerful and continuous driver of the organization’s growth and resilience as well as a tool to reignite intrinsic motivation within the executive team and larger employee base.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Bramuel Mwalo – CEO & Founder of Xetova presented the concept behind the summit, noting that the future of digital transformation is insight service. He said that insight service is a solution that enables an organization to seamlessly know what it needs to do, and take that action to create the desired impact. “Digital transformation is when technology begins to make life easier for a human being. When a human being’s life is easier, transformation begins. It all starts with the human being.” He said.
Speaking in a panel on how to deploy digital solutions for profitability and resilience, Ms. Carole Kariuki noted that the access and adaptability of digital tools were originally a preserve of big firms, especially in the financial sector. She went on to say that this has changed and small businesses are increasingly adapting to technology due to many factors including the Covid-19 pandemic that presented difficulties that could only be won by innovation.
Ms. Kariuki highlighted how KEPSA supported businesses to go digital during the Covid-19 pandemic through various initiatives like the E-commerce Booster Program. She also noted that digital technology has helped the organization, especially during the private sector-led Covid-19 vaccine initiative.
The KEPSA CEO spoke in a panel session where she was joined by Dr. Mercy Mwangangi – Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Health; Mr. Bramuel Mwalo – CEO & Founder, Xetova; Mr. George Nakos – CEO, TRT Investments SA and Mr. Anthony Muiyuro – President of ISACA – Kenya Chapter as the moderator.
Dr. Mwangangi in her remarks noted that collaboration is very important for any organization to make significant strides in digital transformation. She demonstrated how technology has aided the medical sector in many ways giving an example of the blood donation program that uses technology in tracking.
Dr. Vimal Shah – Chair, Bidco Africa noted that digital disruption is inevitable but the question is if businesses a ready for the next step of leveraging technology and data. He said that the presence of leading global tech firms in Kenya is a clear indication that the country is geared towards a digital revolution. Dr. Vimal also indicated that technology has been underutilized will a lot of silos in digitization that make it inefficient to exploit its full potential.
The event featured high-profile sessions in Financial Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Digital Government and also saw the release of Xetova’s inaugural report “CEO Perspectives: Data-Driven Transformations.
Present during the event were Hon Eric Wafukho – Chief Administrative Secretary at the National Treasury and KEPSA leaders; Mucai Kunyiha – Group CEO, CKL and Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, CEO, Kenya Health Federation (KHF) among other leaders and representatives of various organisations.
