Ms Carole Kariuki, the CEO of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), met with H.E. Mr Arnaud Suquet, Ambassador of France to Kenya on 15th February 2023 at the Ambassador’s residence. The Ambassador reiterated his commitment to work with the private sector to increase the investment portfolio in the country. Global competitiveness is key for KEPSA as a strategic focus area to increase investments in the country.
H.E. Mr Arnaud Suquet noted that with the current global fertilizer crisis, the Embassy is supporting the development of a fertilizer production facility in Eldoret, relieving the burden on farmers with reduced costs of inputs. Further, the Embassy is keen to look into sports facilities and infrastructure development and support the health sector to increase access to healthcare in facilities like the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital by increasing its capacity through the expansion of its facilities.
Also present in the meeting was Maignan Audrey, Regional Head for East Africa at Proparco; Teddy Bukhala, Investment Officer for East Africa at Proparco; Héloïse Tournoux, Regional Financial Advisor, East Africa and Indian Ocean at the French Embassy; and Ebenezer Amadi, Program Manager, KEPSA.
As part of the continued partnership, the two agreed to work together in the following areas:
• Upscaling the COAST Project to address plastic pollution in the Indian Ocean and upskilling women and youth as a support system to create alternative livelihoods is linked to growing the blue economy.
• As France prepares to host the Olympics in 2024, the Embassy is working with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will rope in KEPSA through its Sports, Culture and Arts Sector Board to support the design and development of sports facilities and foster young talent. Sports is a resource to the country in terms of enhancing tourism and creating businesses in the sector, contributing to the GDP.
• During the E.U. Business Forum, KEPSA will support the linkage of investors to Kenyan businesses to increase Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs). This is a continuation of the collaboration on trade missions to the country.
• The Embassy is organizing a business delegation visit to Paris in October 2023. KEPSA will join the delegation to facilitate the linkage of investors to business opportunities in Kenya and generate interest for investors in France, with Kenya as a destination for investments.
