On 19th May 2022, KEPSA CEO Ms. Carole Kariuki held a meeting with a Swiss Delegation led by Ms. Manuela Leimgruber – Minister Counsellor & Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Switzerland to Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda. Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing Trade and Investment between Kenya and Switzerland.
Ms. Leimgruber was accompanied by Mr. Daniel Schneider – Swiss Confederation Counsellor/ Head of Swiss Business Hub: Mr. Stefan Barny – Director Global Network Switzerland Global Enterprise and Ms. Mahvish Malik – Trade Officer, Embassy of Switzerland to Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda.
Ms. Kariuki highlighted the vast business and investment opportunities in Kenya as well as possible areas of mutual collaboration. She noted that there are opportunities with regards to upscaling the existing trade between Kenya and Switzerland by enhancing private sector participation as well as investments and diversification of the existing products and services. To this effect, Ms. Kariuki said that there is need for the Kenyan and Swiss private sector to jointly work together to identify areas of comparative advantage to inform future strategic investments from both ends.
KEPSA will share sector briefs/updates as well as bankable projects in Kenya with the Swiss and the Swiss reciprocate on the same. KEPSA will organize virtual match-making forums guided by pre-identified areas of investment to enable Kenyan and Swiss investors to familiarize themselves with each other ahead of the physical match-making forums that will serve to conclude ongoing discussions between Kenyan and Swiss businesses.
KEPSA will further explore collaboration with the Switzerland Global Enterprise to digitize investment opportunities through a digital portal. This will be instrumental with regards to the identification of credible opportunities between the two countries for private sector participation.
In conclusion, Ms. Kariuki poised a challenge to the Swiss team to jointly identify a project for implementation through KEPSA that will lead to long term investment opportunities, job creation and lead to business growth.
