On 1st August 2022, KEPSA CEO Ms Carole Kariuki held a meeting with Mr Rohit Vadhwana, Deputy High Commissioner of India in Kenya and Deputy Permanent Representative (UNEP & UN-Habitat). The Deputy High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Rakesh Mohan, Second Secretary and Mr Alvito Odoyo, Marketing Executive High Commission of India in Kenya. This was an introductory meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest as well as create a cooperation framework and a working relationship.
Key outcomes from the meeting were as follows:
• KEPSA together with the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and the High Commission of India in Kenya will look into the possibility of hosting a health-related conference together with B2B meetings between Kenya and India's health sector. This conference will cover all health-related facets such as the hospital, pharmaceutical, laboratory and proceed to incorporate regulators from both countries for participants to have an understanding of the regulatory environment in both countries
• Adopt initiatives geared towards upscaling south to south tourism and in this instance Kenya India tourism
• Adopt programs geared towards scaling up SMEs. This program may be on access to finance with solutions provided with regards to Cheap accessible affordable finance, capacity building and market access amongst other mutually agreed initiatives
• Jointly develop a workable version for Kenya of 'Start-Up India' which is India's largest online entrepreneurship platform that allows startups to network, access free tools & resources and participates in programs & challenges. Startup India Hub is a one-stop platform for all stakeholders in the Startup ecosystem to interact with each other, exchange knowledge and form successful partnerships in a highly dynamic environment.
• Training opportunities will be availed for the private sector when available both virtually as well as in person by the High Commission of India in Kenya
Kenya India Trade:
India is one of the largest trading partners of Kenya and India-Kenya trade relations encompass various sectors of the economy. The current trade volume is to the tune of USD 2.2158 billion (2019-20), out of which Indian exports to Kenya were USD 2.126 billion and import from Kenya was USD 89.62 million.
