On 8th August 2023, KEPSA CEO Ms Carole Kariuki met with Bata Shoe Kenya Managing Director Mr Benson Okumu at the KEPSA offices. This was an introductory meeting between the two leaders where they deliberated on the overall growth and development of the leather sector, among other issues.
The discussion also revolved around Bata's ongoing strategic initiatives. Notably, the Limuru factory was underscored as a pivotal asset, responsible for generating a substantial 90% of the company's sales revenue. This accomplishment is mirrored by the company's commitment to providing employment opportunities to over 3000 individuals through its extensive workforce.
On her part, Ms Kariuki highlighted Bata's significance as a valuable player within the leather industry value chain. She mentioned that KEPSA will continue to provide access to high-level events and networking opportunities to Bata, who are Platinum members. Such engagements, she said, hold immense potential for fostering valuable connections and collaborations within the business ecosystem.
Mr Okumu noted that the legendary shoe manufacturer and retailer has undertaken a concerted effort to upgrade and uplift its retail stores. He indicated that 60 stores have been renovated to enhance the overall shopping experience for customers and align with evolving market trends.
In conclusion, the meeting proved to be a forum for insightful discussions and reflections on Bata Shoe Company's journey, achievements, and aspirations. The insights shared by the two leaders, alongside the updates on Bata's strategic endeavours, collectively underscore the company's commitment to development, innovation and its essential role in the leather value chain.
