In a significant stride towards fostering sustainable migration and bolstering economic opportunities, KEPSA is actively pursuing potential partnerships with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in several areas. Today, the two organizations held a meeting to discuss key possible priorities, including labour and skills mobility schemes, border governance, job creation, food security, reducing remittance costs, promoting ethical recruitment and employment standards, de-risking SMEs and youth to drive sustainable small-scale businesses, and mitigating vulnerabilities for communities affected by the impacts of climate change.
KEPSA was represented by Mr. Victor Ogallo, Deputy CEO; Dr. Jackson Koimbori, Senior Circular Economy & Climate Change Coordinator; Ms. Doris Olutende, Manager PPD; and Ms. Josephine Wawira, Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager. Representatives from IOM included Mr. Faisal Sharif, Deputy Head of Mission; Ms. Victoria Kajja, Head of the Mission Support Unit; and Ms. Gurung Pravina, Head of Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion.
Collaboration in these areas will underscore the private sector's pivotal role in driving economic, social, and sustainable growth, which will significantly contribute to the SDGs. For instance, leveraging mobile money transfers to streamline remittance processes will enhance financial inclusion and promote economic resilience among migrant communities and networks.
The engagement meeting marks a significant milestone in advancing KEPSA’s sustainable partnerships agenda to address the country’s multifaceted challenges, including unemployment. Both organizations are keen on harnessing collective expertise and resources to unlock innovative solutions and establish safe pathways for inclusive growth and prosperity, ensuring the beneficiaries become agents of positive change and economic transformation.
