On 24th September 2023, the Kenya Plastics Pact (KPP) joined SI Alumni Kenya (SIANK) among other partners in a clean-up at City Park Market (parklands) to commemorate the 2023 Plastics Free Week as part of a series of events by the Plastics Free Week SI Alumni Kenya event.
The objective of the clean-up was to create awareness among the City Park Market traders and customers/consumers on reducing overconsumption of single-use plastics and enhance the adoption of existing solutions to single-use plastics.
Adapting to a plastic-free lifestyle is a personal choice that can be achieved through the adoption of the R-imperatives of Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Here are a few examples of the low-hanging fruits in refusing single-use plastics that traders were engaged on
The participants also engaged in a clean-up around the market collecting single-use plastics while rallying the traders to adopt and practice sustainable waste disposal within the market.
To culminate the series of activities, the winners of a Plastic Free Week challenge that ran from 16th to 23rd on the inspiration for plastic-free living were awarded at a ceremony held on Saturday 23rd September 2023 at Unseen Nairobi.
