On 21st September 2022, KEPSA participated in the inaugural stakeholder workshop to kick off the development of a values-driven Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Framework at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). KEPSA was represented by Ms Priscilla Kerebi – Vice-Chair, Education Sector Board (Tertiary) and Ms Wairimu Njage – Vice-Chair, Education Sector Board (Basic).
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions will be the source of vital labour to support Kenya’s Vision 2030 aspirations across all sectors of the economy. CBET, along with other qualification frameworks, such as Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL), will be anchored on the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQAF) to ensure that education and training pathways are clearly aligned to the national ethos that all Kenyans deserve to thrive and prosper.
The meeting was attended by a number of officials from the Ministry of Education, education Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs), public universities and development partners. There was a consensus to take stock of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET CDACC) past contributions in developing a framework and consider them during the development of the CBET framework.
