My name is Felicity Mwendwa, aged 33, and I am the Founder and Managing Director of Mwees Farm Enterprise Ltd., a Kenyan-registered agricultural company based in Meru, Meru County. The business was established in the year 2020.
I have been managing my farming business using personal savings, initially starting with 6 permanent employees and 15 seasonal casual employees. Through my participation in various KEPSA-organized forums, both virtual and physical, focusing on capacity building and trade, my business has experienced growth. Consequently, I have been able to add 2 more permanent employees and increase the number of casual employees from 15 to 25.
In November 2023, I participated in the Czech Republic Trade Forum at the Sarova Panafric Hotel. The forum was highly informative, providing an opportunity to connect with fellow entrepreneurs from Kenya and the Czech Republic. Meeting agri-business entrepreneurs, I engaged in a B2B matchmaking session, learning about organic farming and the production of folia fertilizer from rabbit urine. Inspired by these insights, I ventured into organic farming for organic fertilizer, addressing the cost challenges associated with non-organic alternatives.
Through my participation, I also conducted business with local traders at the exhibition and secured a local partner for the supply of organic fertilizer—a solution to a sourcing challenge I had encountered for my farm.
My key takeaways include the invaluable ideas and information gained from the Czech Republic forum, as well as the identification of a new supplier for organic fertilizer. I emphasize the importance of hosting more such forums, as they equip participants with knowledge and insights previously unknown.
