The Third Partnership Technical Committee (PMT) of the Kenya Denmark Strategic Sector Co-operation (SSC) took place at KEPSA offices on 29th September 2022. The SSC partnership is anchored in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF) in cooperation with the private sector through KEPSA to contribute to inclusive, sustainable growth and development as well as engaging the private sector in delivering green solutions.
In her remarks, the KEPSA Deputy CEO- Foundation, Ms Martha Cheruto, appreciated the strategic partnership and the significant role it is playing in driving green business environment reforms under the Third National Business Agenda (NBAIII).
The Kenya – Denmark cooperation for Environment supports the green transition by offering technical expertise and best practice skills transfer, training and capacity-building programs, and fostering dialogue between the government and the private sector. Through the support of SSC training of Kenyans Champions on Green and Circular Economy, KEPSA championed the inclusion of provisions of circular economy and extended producer responsibility in the Sustainable Waste Management Act, 2022. The Act was enacted on 7th July 2022 and provides a holistic value chain approach in managing materials and waste from source generation to final disposal.
Other areas of focus of the partnership include enhancing inspection and enforcement, environmental audits, and self-regulations, data and information management, and training on industrial environmental assessment. Mr Martin Schneekloth chaired the meeting – Program Manager International Co-operation –Environment Protection Agency, and Co-chaired by Mr Augustine Kenduiwo of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
