The industry is the consumer of education products(graduates) and it is important to that industry and academia forge a very collaborative approach in order to ensure that the university products serve the market needs.
Dr. Gaitho highlighted the opportunities that exist in being active sector members including representation in various sector related government committees, opportunity to influence the policy and regulatory environment as well as public private partnerships and B2B exchange programs.
Members further discussed on role of post skills institutions in enriching university curriculums, the role of professional bodies and linkage with universities and the need to harmonize qualification and recognition frameworks for all professionals serving in different sectors. The sector members agreed that going forward they will play a key role in providing thought leadership for the sector especially for addressing human capital and skills needs for a competitive East African region.
