Nairobi, May 7th 2024: The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), represented by the Vice Chair of the Education Sector Board, Ms. Priscilla Kerebi, is engaged in a transformative five-day workshop, uniting Kenya and Nigeria to explore Sector Skills Councils and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This dynamic exchange of insights and expertise is hosted by the State Department for Labour and the Jua Kali Sector Federation led by the CEO Mr. Richard Muteti, with diverse stakeholders delving into the intricacies of work-based learning and competency assessment systems spanning from legal and institutional frameworks to practical implementation strategies.
Throughout this collaborative endeavour, participants from both nations are discussing frameworks of skills development, aiming to address the pressing challenges of youth unemployment and skills mismatch. From legal and institutional foundations to practical implementation strategies, the workshop serves as a nexus for innovation and knowledge-sharing.
From Nigeria's robust Sector Skills Councils to Kenya's pioneering strides in Recognition of Prior Learning, each session provides a platform to share insights and best practices. The conference navigates the complexities of bridging the gap between education and industry, forging pathways towards a more vibrant and inclusive workforce.
The workshop is hoped to close, with a roadmap for the future guided by the newfound collaborations and synergies. With bilateral exchange programs poised for launch and memoranda of understanding on the horizon, the seeds of cross-border cooperation have been sown and strengthened partnerships are expected to drive transformative change in their respective spheres.
