KEPSA on November 29, 2023, participated in a Consultative Roundtable Forum convened by Mount Kenya University Foundation on Education Sponsorship by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that was held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Westlands. KEPSA was represented by Dr. Vincent Gaitho, Chair of the KEPSA Education Sector Board. The forum aimed at analyzing trends in student intakes and their impact on education transition rates and discussed the challenges and opportunities presented by the new University Funding Model, while emphasizing the need to strengthen partnerships between NGOs and educational institutions.
Dr. Vincent Gaitho, emphasized KEPSA's commitment to universal quality education, highlighting its benefits to the private sector. He stressed KEPSA's focus on supporting scholarships, acknowledging key contributors like Safaricom's M-Pesa Foundation, Base Titanium Scholarship, and various private universities including CUEA, Riara, Strathmore, USIU, and MKU all contributing through various scholarship programs. Dr. Gaitho further urged businesses to invest in education, urging that the forum should focus on discussions on human resources, emphasizing the need for well-prepared and qualified individuals attainable through education and scholarships. He encouraged financial support for education through foundations and NGOs, suggesting collaboration with the NGO council.
He also emphasized education as the nation's hallmark and while recognizing challenges in resource pooling, he called on the MKU Foundation to devise a sustainable strategy for scholarships, envisioning it as a continuous initiative contributing to economic prosperity.
The forum provided a platform for constructive dialogue among stakeholders in the education sector. Dr. Gaitho's participation reinforced KEPSA's commitment to addressing challenges and contributing to collaborative solutions in education sponsorship. The insights gained from the forum are expected to inform future initiatives aimed at enhancing educational opportunities in Kenya.
