KEPSA CEO Ms Carole Kariuki represented the Kenyan private sector at the Business 20 (B20) Summit India 2023 in New Delhi, India from 25th to 27th August 2023, among other Global CEOs. Ms Kariuki attended the business sessions, Trade Ministers' sessions and a special session that was graced by H.E Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.
The co-organisers of the event Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) signed a memorandum of understanding with KEPSA aimed at strengthening collaboration towards boosting trade and investment between Kenya and India. CII will be leading a business delegation to Kenya in November this year in a visit in partnership with KEPSA.
B20 is among the prominent engagement groups of the G20 which India is the current President. The summit aims to deliver concrete actionable policy recommendations on priorities by each rotating presidency to spur economic growth and development. The B20 bases its work on Task Forces (TFs) and Action Councils (ACs) entrusted to develop consensus-based policy recommendations to the G20 and to international organizations and institutions.
Themed R.A.I.S.E, which stands for Responsible, Accelerated, Innovative, Sustainable and Equitable Business Practices, the summit brings together over 2,500 delegates comprising captains of industry and business delegations with keynote speeches from eminent industry leaders, global CEOs and leaders from multilateral organizations.
Some of the organisations' representatives present included; Brad Smith, President and Vice Chairman, Microsoft; Allen Blue, Co-Founder, LinkedIn; Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance; Michael Miebach, Chief Executive Officer, Mastercard; Bernard Looney, Chief Executive Officer, BP; R Dinesh, President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII); Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII among many others.
The summit discussed various topics including Inclusive GVCs for resilient Global Trade and Investment; Digital Transformation; Tech, Innovation and R&D; Financial Inclusion for Economic empowerment; Future of Work, Skilling and Mobility; Energy, Climate Change and Resource Efficiency; Financing for Global Recovery among other priority issues.
