KEPSA’s Investment Officer Mr. Timothy Odongo attended a seminar in China sponsored and organized by the Chinese government from 20th of March to 10th April 2018. The seminar focused on Capacity Building of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises for Developing Countries. The teaching was delivered through presentations and field trips to centres of excellence. The Presentations were delivered by government officials and experts, covering topics such as “General Review of China”, “China’s Opening-up & Economic Development”, “The vision of establishing the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”, “China’s Foreign Economic Cooperation and ‘Going Out’ Strategy”, “Achievements of China’s Foreign Assistance”, “Financial Service for SME Going-out”, “SME development and international cooperation in China”, “Trade and investment facilitation of SME in China”, “Credit financing for SMEs”, “China’s policies and measures on attracting foreign investments” and so on. The participants who were spread from all across Africa, Europe, South America and Asia visited other cities outside Beijing, where they met with local government officials, Private sector players and got a chance to exchange ideas with them to get a better understanding of China’s economic development and at the same time seek opportunities for more cooperation.
The Seminar was primarily hosted at the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO, also known as the Training Centre of the Ministry of Commerce), of which is the only educational and training institution directly affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), People’s Republic of China.

AIBO is the first to organize seminars for government and business officials from developing countries as from 1998 and as of 2017, AIBO had organized 1314 seminars/workshops with participants from several regions around the world.
The Chinese government periodically holds seminars of this kind aiming to enhance mutual understanding, deepen friendship, and establish platforms for promoting communication and cooperation among developing countries.
