KEPSA Education Sector Board led by Basic Education Chair, Ms. Mutheu Kasanga and the Higher Education Chair, Dr. Vincent Gaitho met with the Kenya National Qualification Authority (KNQA) Director General / CEO Dr. Juma Mukhwana on 3rd July 2019 at KEPSA offices. The meeting, among other things, delved on frameworks set out including the National accreditation system, a national quality assurance system and a national assessment and examination standards.
The meeting noted that lack of coherence and fragmentation of qualifications, rampant production of fraudulent certificates or fake certificates, lack of a nationally accepted institutional and program accreditation system and standards among others are challenges that face qualifications in Kenya.
KNQA is the custodian of Kenya qualifications and a reference point for equation of foreign qualifications. The Authority registers awarding institutions, external quality assurance, professional bodies, local and foreign assessment and examination bodies. KNQA is very key in creating labour mobility in Africa and globally thus increasing the country’s labour productivity competitiveness.
