Ms. Diana Opembe is a resident of Uasin Gishu County and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Finance Option).  Upon graduating from the university, she was lucky to find a job although she quit after working for 2 months to try her skills in freelance writing.

Ms. Opembe sought training and mentorship from Walter Akolo, a freelance writer who also offers training on online work. Walter assisted her to successfully open her Upwork account, the platform from which she works and earns to date.

Later on, Diana heard about Ajira digital program from a Whatsapp group and applied for the training. Though previously experienced in online work, the Ajira training at the Cooperative University in Meru sharpened her skills on freelance writing and equipped her with important skills in content writing, time management and communication.

After the training, Ms. Opembe went through a one-month mentorship from which she learnt about bidding; finding the best jobs and clients online; and negotiating pay for work delivered.

Currently, Diana is a full time content and article writer on Upwork. Since Ajira training and mentorship, she has earned more than $3000, and manages to pay all her bills through freelancing.  Besides, Ms. Diana has mentored three youth to whom she regularly outsources surplus work.

Ms. Opembe cautions that managing her time and working from home are quite tricky, and it requires utmost discipline for a person to excel in the freelance marketplace.

Diana commends the Ajira Digital project partners for the program which has positively impacted on her life. She further encourages other youth to pursue online work as a source of employment and income.
