KEPSA ATTENDS THE NATIONAL IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE OF THE EAC COMMON MARKET PROTOCOL
The Kenya Private Sector Alliance participated in first 2017 meeting of the technical officials of the National Implementation Committee (NIC) of the EAC Common Market Protocol.
Each EAC Partner state established a National Implementation Committee of the EAC Common Market Protocol as a result of a directive of the 15th meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers responsible for EAC Affairs and Planning. In Kenya, the NICs is composed of line ministries and relevant institutions in the national government, representatives of the private sector and civil society. The main objectives of the NICs are to expedite the pace of implementation of the EAC Common Market Protocol in each Partner State.
The NIC meeting reviewed the findings of the 2016 Common Market Scorecard and developed recommendations for implementation in Kenya and at a regional level to improve the level of implementation. The meeting developed an action plan for implementation at the national level in Kenya.
The NIC further conducted a review of the progress made in implementation of the Common Market Protocol over the 6 month period from July 2016 to December 2016.
