KEPSA ATTENDS A CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON THE WAY FORWARD FOR KENYA

KEPSA through the KEPSA Foundation attended a meeting organized by the Center for Multiparty Democracy in Kenya on 13th December 2017 at CMD-Kenya to discuss “The Way Forward for Kenya”. The meeting brought together representatives from the different sectors including Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, Civil Society Reference Group, Association of Professional Societies in East Africa, Matatu Owners Association, Matatu Welfare Association, Central Organization of Trade Unions, KEPSA and CMD-Kenya.

The purpose of the meeting was to identify the critical issues that the country must address to chart the way forward and agree on a structured way through which a multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral, and non-partisan conglomeration could engage Kenyans at large on those matters. Two key areas serious engagement that had been proposed included:

  • Strengthening of the rule of law, constitutionalism, justice, order, security and peace.
  • Identifying and earnestly addressing long term solutions to the now almost frequent electorally related political crisis.

Discussions during the meeting proved useful in advancing the agenda on National Dialogue. Following the deliberations there was a consensus that all initiatives coalesce under the “National Conversation” brand already advanced by KEPSA and the Religious Reference Group and that the Multi- Sectoral Forum (MSF) approach be used as the purpose vehicle to prosecute the Agenda as already conceived by the Inter-religious Reference Group.

It was also agreed that key issues already identified by various groups would be aligned with any others under thematic areas to be defined e.g. Citizenry, Governance, Corruption etc. and that moving forward a secretariat comprising of the four constituent groups (Private Sector, Inter-Religious Group, Civil Society and Political Parties under CMD) will be formed with the MSF being domiciled at IRG’s Unfungamano office.

The formation of the MSF is to be announced at Ufungamano on Friday 22nd December 2017.
